Turn up the volume!

November 10, 2010

Thin hair or thick hair, whatever the type, you can have gorgeous voluminous hair! Its true, I’m not lying. But there are some simple rules to follow. Are you ready? Ok.

1. Start off with a volumizing shampoo and conditioner ( my recommendations for products will be listed at the end of this post);

2. Prior to blow-drying and after towel drying, you MUST use a volumizer! Make sure to spray or apply this product directly to the roots of your hair, since that’s where you want the volume;

3. Now to style. The simplest way to achieve volume here without using a brush is to flip your head forward and blow dry the hair aiming the nozzle directly at the roots toward the floor using your fingers to lightly comb through. Then, once it is almost completely dry flip your head back up and part your hair a center section of hair from the outer edge of your eyebrow to the outer edge of your other eyebrow in thickness and a to the crown of your head in length.  You don’t need to do more than that since the volume is coming from the top of the head, once it falls it will blend in seamlessly with the rest of your hair.  Below is a picture of a full roller set, you can opt to do this for a more red-carpet ready glam look, but for everyday wear only the top section of the hair will do.

4. Now blast your hair (rollers in) with heat from your blow dryer and then let your hair cool for about 10 minutes.  Mist the hair with a flexible hold hairspray (nobody likes crunchy hair) This allows for the hair to set.

5. Take down your rollers and lightly finger comb your hair, set the do with another spritz of your hairspray and voila! Sexy, bouncy volume to die for.  Thank me later.

Here is a list of my recommendations for hair products in both professional and budget friendly brands:

Shampoo and Conditioner :

Kerastase Bain Volumactiv Shampoo and Kerastase Resistance Volumactiv Complexe Fibrepains Lait Conditioner

Budget Friendly:

Pantene Pro-V Flat to Volume Shampoo and Conditioner

Kerastase Resistance Volumactiv Expansion Spray (This is by far my favorite and go-to product for volume. It gives your hair body and bounce without feeling tacky and sticky.)

Budget Friendly:

Pantene Pro-V Volume Mousse (Be sure not to over saturate your hair with mousse or it will feel crunchy)

Bumble and Bumble Does it All Hairspray

Budget Friendly:

L’Oreal Elnett Satin Hairspray

Velcro rollers can be purchased for as cheap as $5 from your local beauty supply store or Walgreens, CVS, Duane Reade etc.

Enjoy the bounce dolls!
